Public Works is committed to providing the residents of Allegheny County with exceptional infrastructure, maintenance, and engineering services in a timely, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible manner. We ensure the safety, accessibility, and quality of 408 miles of roadway and 533 bridges. We also purchase and maintain the county’s fleet of almost 800 vehicles and heavy equipment.

By continually exceeding industry standards of performance, the department has been accredited four times by the American Public Works Association (APWA) since 2007 and is the first and only agency in Pennsylvania to have received the prestigious honor.
